Ahhoooo, Werewolves of FloridaReading time: 2 minutes
This summer, we posted about a game we created to introduce kids to data science that combined two great things in life – werewolves and Family Feud. This month, the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition used the game during their monthly Science Saturday. October’s topic was ‘Demystifying Data’, and 52 kids spent the day learning about data science.
These Science Saturdays provide elementary-aged students with the opportunity for “hands-on inquiry” within different STEM topics. Nurturing an interest in science from a young age is important to the program, as Ursula Schwuttke, Program Development Director for Educational Outreach, explains:
To a greater extent than one might expect, third graders have a lot of interest in science. Imagine the impact it would have if this level of interest were widely nurtured to persist through high school.
We’re very pleased that IHMC chose to use our game to help explain data science, and hope that the program continues to successfully inspire students to further explore STEM subjects. If anyone is interested in getting more information on the game, leave a comment and we’ll send you the information!
